This place was very clean and affordable for the whole family!! They have a very nice pool, heated might I add. The staff was very friendly. I saw the housekeeping cleaning every thing in the rooms including all the little circular mirrors!! My family loved this place. The room by the pool is the best I think!! If you have kids that is!! Breakfast was fantastic too, biscuits and gravy and waffles, wide variety of fruits, oatmeal, cereal, scrambled eggs. One of the better breakfast spots we have had traveling.

We stayed at this hotel for 15 days while in town for a family member who was in the hospital. It was an emotional trip and we were hoping for a quiet and comfortable place to rest, and in many ways, the hotel provided that. The room was clean and cozy, with a beautiful view that brought some peace during a tough time. Customer service was weird but the young male staff member stood out for his kindness and helpful attitude. However our overall experience was affected by the inconsistent and often cold service. At check-in, the woman at the front desk was unfriendly and unwelcoming. The woman with blue hair also was mean on and off. Sometimes she even worked in the breakfast area and would start cleaning and shutting things down before 10 a.m., making guests feel rushed. It was uncomfortable to eat while tables were being wiped around us and waffle makers were being turned off early. That being said, communication with the staff overall felt disconnected and odd, like we were bothering them just by asking simple questions. I’ve never stayed at a hotel where the general vibe among staff was so disengaged and unapproachable. In general the quiet room, and good view, helped make our stay manageable during a difficult visit. With more attention to customer service and hospitality, this hotel has real potential.

I chose an accessible room with a roll in shower because we are older and have a hard time stepping into a tub. The bathroom and shower were huge and could easily accommodate a wheelchair. There is nowhere in the shower to place your shampoo or body wash. It is impossible to put it on the floor when you have mobility issues. The shower was the hand held type on a hose. The problem was that there was nowhere to hang it in order to shower. There is a bracket but the shower head doesn't fit in it. So, I had to wash my hair with one hand while holding the showerhead. It was so frustrating and I ended up getting water all over the bathroom floor. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean but dated. Over night it rained and the parking lot had two giant puddles and some guests had to walk through several inches of water while carrying all their stuff to get to their cars. Fortunately, our car was in a dry spot The breakfast was actually pretty good and plentiful.

I travel to NW Michigan at least once a year, Charlevoix is one of my regular overnight stops and I stay here every time. Those who say the rooms could use an update are correct as-in this is not a 4 or 5 star hotel, but as someone on a budget I have little complaints about the quality of my room and stay. Staff are friendly, rates are decent for the area, and the location is good as well. Downtown Charlevoix is less than 5 min away by car. I have not had a messy or unkept room once, I have seen no evidence of bedbugs, and I have seen no stains on any of the linens. Overall, it's a good place to stay if you will be in the area overnight.
