The nuthatch sticks around in our Michigan backyards throughout the chilly seasons, and we’re glad because painters can get inspired throughout the year. A few berries to keep him happy is a must and adds brilliance to this bird portrait. Painters will focus on various techniques, including a merging of soft and loose with a more-detailed technique. For all-levels watercolorists. Supplies: A board for your paper. Can be a corrugated box side. Painter’s tape to tape your paper down to your board. Table Salt (regular and/or Kosher, larger grains). White Crayon or white taper candle. 140-pound cold press watercolor paper. 9 by 12. Masking fluid is optional. Brushes: Round brushes that come to a point when wet, including at least a size 0, 4, 6.
