Winter Activities

Escape to the Great White North and visit Charlevoix for an exciting winter trip. With abundant snowfall, you can get outside and explore the scenic beauty of Northern Michigan or sit back and relax while enjoying the snow globe view from indoors at an eatery or pub. Below are some good ways to do both!

Visit downtown for great sales
Enjoy the charming beauty of the tree lights lining Bridge Street with views of Round Lake in downtown Charlevoix. Winter is a great time to visit area stores because most shops are offering great savings on last year’s merchandise.

Explore the Mt. McSauba Recreation Area
Visit the Mt. McSauba Recreation for freshly groomed trails, downhill skiing, sledding, and ice skating. Don’t have winter sports equipment? No problem, the ski hill has a variety of equipment available for rent at very affordable rates. This is one of our favorite places to visit in the wintertime!

Participate in the Dogman Challenge
If you love to ride your fat tire bike in the winter, consider signing up for the Dogman Challenge taking place on February 18th. This two-hour endurance race is going to be a blast for riders and spectators.

Celebrate Groundhog Day
February 4th marks Charlevoix’s celebration of Groundhog Day. Shadowfest is a family-friendly event that has lots of kid’s activities, trivia, soup cookoffs, and live music.

Find a Petoskey or Charlevoix Stone
Even in winter, you can find Petoskey and Charlevoix stones. Walk along the shores of Lake Michigan to find these beach treasures. It’s a good time of year to find those unique pieces of fossilized coral.

Candlelight Hikes
We can’t say enough good things about the candlelight hikes at Mt. McSauba. They happen every Friday from 5-8pm from December 23rd to February 24th. This mile long loop is a family fun activity that is free and something you should add to your bucket list!
