The holiday season is fast approaching! If you’re in the market for getting your engagement or wedding pictures, family portraits, professional headshot, or senior photos, Charlevoix has many beautiful locations to serve as the perfect backdrop for any photo. Whether you hire a professional photographer or choose to take your own, here are some of our favorite places to capture those special moments.

Castle Farms
It’s no secret that Castle Farms knows a thing or two about weddings and the wedding photos are spectacular. The top-notch facilities and gardens make it a favorite of professional photographers. This location is perfect for capturing senior photos, professional head shots, or family photos.
Depot Beach/Historic Train Depot
Another photographer favorite is Depot Beach. The historic train depot and its charming gardens are ideal for engagement sessions or senior photos. Depot Beach overlooks Lake Charlevoix which is awesome any type of portrait.
Lavender Hill Farm
Nestled in Charlevoix’s delightful countryside is Lavender Hill Farm. The farm has sprawling rows of lavender, making photos appear even more vibrant. This location is ideal for any type of photograph. Be sure to visit the farm in July to capture peak lavender blooms. We’ve seen some really cute maternity and family shoots at this location.
Orchards
Northern Michigan is home to lots apple and cherry orchards. Whether you’re looking to get your photos taken in the spring, summer, or fall, orchards can be an ideal background. You can capture fresh spring blooms or bountiful fall foliage, making orchards a quirky and fun place to snap a photo or two.
Lake Michigan Beach
We like to think of Lake Michigan Beach as old reliable. This fan favorite has excellent views of Lake Michigan, the Pine River Channel, and the lighthouse. Photographers often recommend this spot because of the variety of backdrops and it’s the ideal place to view a painted Lake Michigan sunset. Also, be sure to capture a photo in front of the lighthouse is a must!
Downtown Charlevoix
Charlevoix’s downtown has lots of unique nooks and crannies that make photographers swoon. Whether getting a photo against the brick wall of the Clothing Company, along the backdrop of the marina docks, beneath the arch of fresh flowers at Bloom Floral, or under the shining lights in Van Pelt Ally, downtown has many magnificent locales.
Sunshine Charters/Boat
Surrounded by three bodies of fresh water, photographers love to capture portraits on the water. Whether you own your own boat or a boat for a couple of hours, water-themed photos are epic and highly unique.
Ferry Beach near the Willows
Ferry Beach, near the massive willow trees, is another favorite. This location has a colorful backdrop making it ideal for family portraits. The playground provides kiddos a great place to play while photographers can capture splendid action photos.
Chicago Ave
This quaint residential street is one of our favorite under the radar photo locations. This street is ideal for fall engagement photos because of the colors provide a crisp backdrop for any photo and there’s very little traffic to interfere with a photo.
